Nanuk 940 Waterproof Case Test | Will it Keep My DJI Ronin-M Gimbal Dry?
Every single high-end rugged waterproof case on the market today claims to be able to keep your video gear safe from dirt, dust, water and even airplane baggage handlers, but is this really the case? Get it? Case?
Take for example the Nanuk 940 media series case designed specifically to fit DJI Ronin-M camera gimbal. This puppy is constructed from heavy-duty impact-resistant resin.
It comes with security latches that don't open unless you press them in a very specific way and best of all it's waterproof. While these features sound impressive, I'm curious to know how this thing performs in the real world specifically in an extremely rough and tumble situation.
In order to find out, I'm going to load my precious Ronin-m into the Nanuk 940 and throw the entire case off a tall dock into the ocean. Then I'm going to jump in after it and try and submerge the case every which way underwater to see if it lives up to the hype.
Let’s hop to it. Okay, I really hope this works. So let’s try and do this all in one take so there's no funny business, so nobody can say “Ah, you cut it and Ronin wasn't actually in there.” Okay, so today we’re at the docks and we're going to test how watertight and impact-proof these Nanuk cases and we’re gonna test it with the DJI Ronin-M.
So here’s my precious little gimbal, it's in the case as its intended to be, the second-tier reveals the remote and some other stuff. So no funny business, we’re gonna throw this case off the pier and hopefully, hopefully everything will be just fine - the case will hold up and I'll be able to use my Gimbal on future shoots.
So we’re gonna close the lid and latch it with the latches we're not going to put in any locks on a case because we wanted to test the case in its rawest, purest form and I guess without further ado, let’s do this.
Camera’s rolling? Rolling. Okay.
How tall do you think this is? I don’t know, 10 maybe 15 feet.
Okay. Here it goes. Three..Two..One
Try and submerge it as best as I can.
If it can handle that, then it can handle a baggage handler.
Okay. So now I’m gonna dry it off so that no external water gets in.
I’ve got the heart rate up.
Moment of truth.
Don’t fail me now, Nanuk.
Tada! Look at this thing. In one piece, bone-dry. Where the remote go? Ha, look at this! That’s probably not there.
Still works, that’s good. See this thing.
Okay, let’s grab a battery.
Okay. I don’t want to damage this thing because it’s not balanced but there you go. It still works, just fine. So this is why you get an expensive case because it’ll actually protect your gear and the proof is in the pudding. The Nanuk did its job. My gear will live to see another day. So, there you have it.
